Annual General Meeting

Please make arrangements to attend the 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Dartmouth Skating Club (DSC) to be held on Wednesday, October 24th at 7:30 pm at Suite 32, 1000 Windmill Rd., Dartmouth, N.S.

The Dartmouth Skating Club is run by volunteers and one paid position, the Program Manager. The DSC Board meets once a month (currently held on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 pm – meeting time may change) and has other meetings as required.

The DSC cannot run without volunteers. This year, we have members whose terms have ended. We are currently accepting nominations for the following positions:

Vice President
Member at Large (x3)

Currently, Board Members in the Vice President and two (2) of the three (3) Member at Large positions have made their intentions to run for these positions. Please note although the currently elected chairs have submitted notice, these four (4) positions are open for nominations.
The following describes the management of the club and the duties of the open board positions as found in the by-laws of the constitution:

The general management of the club shall be vested in a Board of Directors consisting of: immediate Past President, President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, six Members at large and a Coaching Representative. All of the above, with the exception of the Past President and the Coaching Representative shall be elected for 2-year terms at the AGM.

Role of Vice President
The Vice President shall fill in President duties in his/her absence. The President shall act as Chair of All Board of Directors and general meetings.

Member at Large
A Member at Large (MAL) is an elected representative of the board. They hold a voting position and represent general membership on issues of interest or concern.
The MAL conducts projects to further the goals of the organization or to develop services for the membership. The MAL could serve as chair of any ad hoc committee formed to develop these projects. The MAL works effectively toward common goals as a team member. The MAL set objectives and develop action plans for selected and/or assigned projects.

If you would like to be nominated for one of the positions listed, please read the attached ELIGIBILITY for DSC BOARD POSITION POLICY prior to submitting your nomination to ensure you meet the requirements.
All nominations to fill a vacancy on the DSC Board, shall be submitted in writing or by electronic transmission to the DSC Secretary, Wanda Holmes at wanda-holmes@hotmail.com a minimum of five (5) days prior to the AGM (October 19, 2018).

• If the nominee has held a board position with any Skate Canada Club or section they must provide a written reference from a member of that board.
• Nominees must provide a current Canadian Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector or, if not complete, proof the record check has been requested.
Individuals currently on the Board eligible to be re-elected are not subject to nomination but must provide written notice a minimum of five (5) days prior to the next scheduled AGM to the DSC Secretary, Wanda Holmes, at wanda-holmes@hotmail.com,
Names of valid nominees and those seeking re-election will be circulated to all Members two (2) days prior to the AGM (October 22, 2018).

Please take the time to give this matter serious consideration. The DSC aims to provide all levels of skaters with quality programs and would like to continue to do so, but this can only be achieved with the participation of committed volunteers.

Please join us on October 24, 2018.
